Germany to acquire up to 650 Skyranger air defense systems from Rheinmetall (X @RheinmetallAG)
The German company Rheinmetall announced plans to sell more than a thousand Skyranger air defense systems, with up to 650 units potentially destined for the German Armed Forces.
The project is part of the Arminius program, which includes the delivery of different versions of the Boxer combat vehicle and could mobilize around $46.4 billion — with approximately $25.5 billion expected to go to Rheinmetall.
CEO Armin Papperger revealed that the Skyranger could be installed on various platforms and that countries such as Denmark, Austria, and other European nations have already expressed interest in the technology. The aim is to strengthen air defense capabilities in response to the growing threats from drones and short-range missiles.
Rheinmetall already provides another similar system, the Skynex, which is currently in use in Ukraine, with good results in intercepting drones and projectiles. The company expects the Skyranger, sharing the same technological base, to perform just as effectively in real combat situations.
